HSU’s Submission to the National Disability Insurance Scheme Review

The Health Services Union (HSU) welcomed the opportunity to provide a submission to the NDIS Review. The NDIS faces a dilemma where demand for services is increasing faster than the supply of labour. The Scheme will need to attract 83,000 workers by 2025, yet workers are leaving the sector in droves. In our submission, the HSU highlights the need for the Federal Government to become a better steward of workforce and skills development, working conditions and sector regulation to meet this growing demand and best support NDIS participants.

Using a summary of responses and case studies from a recently conducted union member survey, we highlight the issues and recommendations under key policy priorities. Our members' insights demonstrate the need for better pricing mechanisms that provide for better wages, conditions and career pathways and the urgent need for worker and provider registration schemes.
